The next morning he would wake up and be somewhat back to his normal self. I kept hoping that the person I fell in love with would come back to me. This cycle of codependency was just BRUTAL. The obsessive behaviors that set in with me trying to fix and control him. I had an obsessive need to find hidden bottles of wine, count them, collect them, spy on him, try to figure out exactly when, where, and who he was drinking with and how much. It became a completely unhealthy and addictive obsession for me.

Ok, I’m going to give an alternative answer Bear I don’t fucking care shirt to the others. Disclaimer - I sell alcohol-free drinks but to clarify, I started my business 11 years ago after I had already stopped drinking because of alcoholism. This is a question we get asked fairly often, even though most of our customers drink alcohol some of the time too and aren’t alcoholics. We always tell them it is purely a personal choice and never actively encourage anyone for - some of - the reasons stated above. We tell them only to do it if they are fully confident in their sobriety (at least, as much as anyone can be). But speaking personally, I drink alcohol-free beer nearly every day. It’s my drink of choice. Why? Because I like the taste and it’s refreshing. I don’t want to drink water, or cola, or orange juice. Especially orange juice. One, maybe. Two, or more? No thanks.
